25 Years of Quattro Goodness!

Most successful high performance road cars from Audi are the RS variants which made into its 25th year today. In 1994, the first RS was produced in the form of RS2 Avant which quickly made its success around the globe. Since then Audi produced some of the greatest performance road cars in the world which includes the iconic 1999 Audi RS4 Avant.

Audi RS models are highly influenced by the technological advancement Audi made in the field of motorsport. Audi was involved in every type of motorsport and developed some of the greatest race cars including rally cars and touring cars the world has ever seen. The Audi IMSA GTO, the legendary Audi Quattro S4 from Group B era are few examples. Audi aimed for highest quality of performance while retaining the the daily usability for the RS models from the right beginning. The technology that they used and tested in the motorsport are the driving force of making greatest RS models ever.

Every RS model has a particular reason to be the ultimate road car but few models has pushed the standard a bit too far. We take a look at the best RSs model ever to come out.

1994 Audi RS2 Avant

This is the first RS model and it was beyond what people expected from Audi. With the help from Porsche, I mean obviously it had Porsche mirrors, wheels even brakes, it was truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It had in-line five, turbocharged engine producing 311 HP straight out of Audi Sport Quattro.

2002 Audi RS6 Sedan

With this particular unit Audi pushed the boundaries of road car performance to a new level. As deceiving as it looks, this had 4.2 Ltr V-8 twin turbocharged producing 450 HP which was assembled by Cosworth. It created its own class.

2008 Audi RS6 Sedan

In 2008 version of RS6 Sedan, Audi went for the ultra high performance figure in a family looking sedan. They replaced the old V-8 to a newly designed F1 inspired V-10, 5.0 Ltr twin turbocharged cranking up to 580 HP. State of the art engine was built by Wolfgang Hatz. Audi was not joking around with this car.

 Audi completely redesigned the outlook of RS7 and made it one of the best looking RS Models if not the best. They went for low slung, hatchback styling which also made it quite unique in design. Power ramped from 560 to 605 and it made 0-60 Mph in just 3.4s. 

Till date Audi Sport GmbH has introduced 25 RS models since 1994 and currently has seven RS models in its range which as follows:

  • Audi TT RS Coupe and Roadster
  • Audi RS3 Sportback and Sedan
  • Audi RS4 Avant
  • Audi RS5 Coupe
  • Audi RS5 Sportback

After 25 years, philosophy of making RS models have not been changed. Audi delivered what they have promised 25 years ago and continues doing it with the latest, most advanced engineered RS variants. Passion that goes into racing reflects in each of their RS line-up of cars.
