DIY- Check & Change Your Engine Oil

Checking and changing Engine oil

Engine oil serves as a lubricant for the various moving parts like the crank and cam shafts etc. Changing engine oil periodically ensures longevity of the engine and slows down the wear and tear of the mechanical parts inside the engine.

Before we begin, it is necessary that the engine is cooled down or the car parked forat least 45mins.

A cool engine is easier to work on and also when the engine is warm or was running, the engine oil is sprayed throughout the engine, therefore we must give it time to settle down to the engine oil pan where we can check the engine oil quantity by pulling out the engine oil dip stick.

The picture below shows and ideal engine oil level on a dip stick.

Start the car and idle for 5 mins and you are done !
