Toyota GR-HV: The Top Drop Hybrid Version of 86

GR-HV Sports Concept Auto Rebellion

Toyota is set to unveil a new hybrid sports car concept at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. The concept is called as GR-HV and from the basic outlook profile we can easily say it is based on the 86 platform. According to Toyota, “dramatic open-top sports-car concept inspired by the company’s involvement in endurance racing and its legendary Supra and Toyota Sports 800”.

The GR-HV is said to have a hybrid powertrain and a bizzare gearbox which will power the rear wheels. The powertrain will be carrying racing DNA as it will be reminiscent of the Toyota GAZOO Racing TS050 Hybrid from the World Endurance Championship. Things get weird inside, the gearbox is sort of a marriage between an automatic and manual transmission. The car’s an automatic, but there’s also an H-pattern shifter, normally seen in manual transmission. The manual mode can be engaged via a button beneath the car’s gearknob cover that makes the lever simulate a manual gearbox without needing a clutch. In another way it is like using paddle shifters, but with a stick.

The GR-HV’s battery is placed in the middle in order to achieve better center of gravity. Stay with us for further development on the GR-HV.
