BUET Automobile club inauguration

On 28th march 2017, BUET automobile club was inaugurated at BUET auditorium complex. The inauguration ceremony was sponsored by HONDA DHS motors and MOBIL.

BUET the top most and the leading engineering institute in Bangladesh is well known for creating projects where the highly meritorious engineering students compete in the international arena. Their strong alumni represent Bangladesh internationally and some of them are working in companies such as BMW, Tesla, InAlfa designs, Mercedes Benz and other world renowned companies in the automobile industry.

BUET’s first automobile build project was the NIPTA-8 that won the ECO run competition in 2013. Eco-Run is the contest for fuel efficient vehicles that compete for the distance each vehicle runs with 1L of petrol. Three-wheeled vehicles with small displacement (below 125cc) are commonly used for the competition and the NIPTA-8 participated in the 4 wheeled car category. Their project NIPTA-8 ran more than 50Kms in just one liter of octane. This was the perfect example that such complete road worthy car manufacturing can be made possible in Bangladesh.

Nowadays as engines become smaller and hybrid technology is being implemented in almost all high end luxury and super cars for example from the Toyota Prius to Mclaren P1, Koenigsegg, La Ferrari, Porsche 918, there is an ever increasing need to lower carbon emissions, making engines smaller but delivering high horsepower and promising exhilarating performance. With the right attention by automobile giants and sponsors, automobile projects can have a very bright future in Bangladesh if our country’s automobile engineers, entrepreneurs and the government start to work together and substantial research and development facilities are given to engineering students.

With the BUET automobile club, the objective is to blend the automobile passion and engineering knowledge of a student. Every car we see on the road today are created with the mixture of design, engineering & architecture. We might as well be intrigued by technological advancement in today’s automobiles and future concepts abroad and they all started small. But our Bangladeshi meritorious students working together can also achieve and create such future concepts of automobiles.  And in the long run with the right funding and R&D Bangladesh can create its own brand of automobiles.

The BUET automobile club will be the right place for students of BUET who have the passion for cars, the enthusiasm to build a project that turn everyone’s dream of making a car into a reality.

Here is a small inspirational message from BUET alumni Mr Mamur Hossain for the BUET Automobile club, who is working for BMW’s South Carolina factory as a robotics engineer.
